The Jammu and Kashmir Government is in the process of formulating an Eco-Tourism Policy, which is expected to be finalised and notified within six months.

The Department of Tourism is preparing the policy to establish a comprehensive framework for the conservation of natural resources, sustainable use of eco-sensitive areas, regulation of tourism activities based on carrying capacity, promotion of community participation, and creation of sustainable livelihood opportunities for local communities.

The Department has informed the Assembly Secretariat that it is actively engaged in drafting the policy. The policy is being finalised after extensive consultations with Tourism Development Authorities, line departments, environmental experts, local communities, tourism industry representatives and other stakeholders.

According to the government, the policy will be finalised and notified within six months after the consultation process is completed and the approval of the competent authority is obtained.
