In Jammu and Kashmir, authorities have directed that all school buildings found unsafe or damaged due to recent heavy rains be locked immediately and kept out of use until necessary repairs are completed. Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, issued the directions during a review meeting to assess rain-related damage across the Jammu division. He stressed that student safety must remain the top priority and asked district authorities to identify vulnerable school buildings without delay. The Divisional Commissioner also directed officials to expedite the restoration of damaged power infrastructure and assess crop losses for providing assistance to affected farmers.
Meanwhile, at least 27 people have lost their lives and six others remain missing in rain-related incidents in Poonch, Rajouri, Doda and Ramban districts since 19th of this month. With forecast of more rainfall for 29th and 30th of July, district administrations have been asked to ensure adequate stocks of essential commodities in vulnerable areas.
