Jitendra Singh Calls for Stronger Industry-Academia Collaboration at ESTIC 2026

Science and Technology Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh has called for greater emphasis on indigenous research, stronger industry-academia collaboration and the timely translation of technologies into solutions for society.

He was addressing the valedictory session of the Emerging Science, Technology and Innovation Conclave (ESTIC) 2026 in New Delhi today.

The Minister said the success of India’s research and innovation ecosystem should increasingly be measured by its tangible contribution to national development and the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

He stressed the need to set clear and measurable targets for the next three years to assess progress and strengthen the country’s long-term scientific and technological capabilities.

Dr. Singh said ESTIC should evolve into a globally recognised scientific platform that attracts researchers, academicians and innovators from across the world. He also highlighted the potential of emerging technologies to accelerate India’s progress and improve citizens’ quality of life.

He emphasised the strategic importance of ocean science and the blue economy, while stressing that affordable and accessible nutrition must remain a national priority.

Principal Scientific Adviser Professor Ajay K. Sood said scientific research must go beyond discoveries and focus on developing solutions to real-world challenges. He called for stronger collaboration among government departments, universities, industry and local communities.

The valedictory session emphasised the need to link scientific research with industrial applications, national priorities and societal needs.
