Jawaharlal Nehru Port in Mumbai emerges as world’s fastest-growing container port

Jawaharlal Nehru Port in Mumbai has emerged as the world’s fastest-growing container port. In a social media post, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal said the port has risen to the 21st position globally, recording a 13.6 per cent growth in container throughout during the first half of 2026. He said the port has outpaced all other ports in the world’s top 30 in terms of growth. Mr Sonowal said that from being absent from the global rankings to emerging as a leading port, India’s maritime sector has achieved new milestones under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision over the past 12 years.
