Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said that renewed diplomacy with Washington remains possible if the US changes its approach and abandons coercion. Mr Araghchi said in a social media post that the US should build trust, speak respectfully, acknowledge our rights, and uphold commitments. He also described recent talks with Qatar’s prime minister and foreign minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, as productive and creative.
US President Donald Trump, however, ruled out immediate talks with Tehran and said American military operations against Iran may not be over. Trump said Iran was under severe military and economic pressure and had limited capabilities. He cautioned that the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz did not mean the US had ended its military engagement with Iran. Trump said there’s not a lot to speak with Iran; he also added that Washington was not looking to meet or anything. Trump also said Russia had so far behaved quite well regarding the Strait of Hormuz but did not specify any Russian commitments or actions toward Iran.
