Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi said Tehran had received an initial reaction from US President Donald Trump to its proposal but was awaiting a formal response through mediators before making a decision.

Mr Araghchi said Iran had presented its plans and conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz and advancing negotiations during meetings with intermediaries.

He said those conditions are set by Iran’s Supreme National Security Council and remain unchanged. He said Iran has not closed the door to diplomacy and continues to support a negotiated solution while insisting on what it calls the rights and legitimate demands of the Iranian people. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also said Tehran would remain firm in the face of the United States and Israel.

On the other hand, Trump has rejected Iran’s proposal for a seven-day ceasefire and the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, saying he would not accept the proposed arrangement.
