More than 500 participants gathered in Riyadh yesterday to celebrate the International Day of Yoga, highlighting the growing popularity of Yoga in Saudi Arabia and its role in promoting health and well-being. The event, organised by the Indian Embassy in Riyadh in collaboration with the Saudi Yoga Committee and local partners, was held at the Prince Faisal bin Fahd Olympic Complex.
Diplomats, yoga practitioners and members of the local community took part in the programme. Addressing the gathering, India’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Dr. Suhel Ajaz Khan, highlighted yoga’s universal appeal and its positive impact on physical, mental and emotional well-being. He also thanked Saudi authorities and local partners for their support in promoting yoga across the Kingdom and said the collaboration reflects the strengthening cultural ties between India and Saudi Arabia.
Ahmed Al Saadi, Chief Executive Officer of the Saudi Yoga Committee, said yoga goes beyond physical exercise and helps bring people together in the pursuit of healthier and more balanced lifestyles. He noted the steady rise in the number of yoga practitioners and professionals in Saudi Arabia. The event was attended by senior Saudi officials, including Hani Mansi from the Ministry of Sport and Nafe Alshaibani from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Participants also joined a Common Yoga Protocol session led by trained instructors from the Embassy and the Saudi Yoga Committee. In the lead-up to the celebrations, several yoga events were organised across the Kingdom, including programmes in Riyadh and Al Jubail, along with community outreach initiatives encouraging the daily practice of yoga.
