The Inter-Ministerial Central Team led by Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, Anant Kishore Saran will today survey the affected areas of North Sikkim and assess the damages thereof. The Joint Secretary was accompanied by the Director, Ministry of Power, RK Meena, Executive Engineer, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Sashwat Rai and Director, Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority, Prabhakar Rai.
Earlier, speaking about financial assistance, the team said, priority would be given to short term and immediate requirements of the state. They assured to expedite release of financial assistance as per immediate requirement so that normalcy can be restored for now.
Meanwhile, the second day of evacuation process has begun, focusing on safely transporting stranded individuals from Lachung to Greenfield Airport. The first group, which included 17 tourists and 2 locals of Lachung, was successfully evacuated today. In order to make it convenient to commute to Siliguri and Gangtok, the Sikkim Government has further arranged SNT buses.
