Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan has said that India’s traditional wisdom has always emphasised respect for nature and the responsible use of natural resources.
Addressing the valedictory session of the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit and Expo in New Delhi, the Vice President said sustainability is rooted in the country’s ancient traditions and is now being strengthened through modern science and technology. He noted that India has achieved rapid economic growth while reducing its dependence on fossil fuels.
Highlighting India’s achievements, Mr Radhakrishnan said the country’s non-fossil fuel capacity had crossed 300 gigawatts. He said environmental commitments are not obstacles to economic growth but catalysts for India’s development. The Vice President added that the renewable energy sector is contributing to affordable electricity, lower industrial costs, employment generation and reduced import bills.
Mr Radhakrishnan also highlighted emerging technologies, including floating solar, geothermal energy and energy storage. He called for stronger collaboration among industry, universities, technical institutions, researchers and start-ups to develop future technologies.
Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi said India’s renewable energy sector had attracted more than 15 lakh crore rupees in investment over the past decade. He added that nearly six lakh crore rupees had flowed into the sector in the two years since the Summit was held in Gandhinagar in 2024.
