In Badminton, India’s Kidambi Srikanth and Tanvi Sharma advanced to second round of China Masters Super 750 tournament with straight-game victories in respective Singles’ events in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province. Men’s Doubles duo, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, and the mixed doubles pair, Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto also moved to the next round.
In Men’s Singles, 2021 world championships silver-medallist, Srikanth defeated Chinese Taipei’s Chi Yu Jen 21-16, 21-15 in the opening match. The former World Number One will next face World Number 9 Victor Lai of Canada.
However, Lakshya Sen, a 2021 world championships bronze-medallist, was knocked out of the tournament after going down against Victor Lai, 14-21, 7-21.
In Women’s Singles, Tanvi overpowered Denmark’s Amalie Schulz 21-16, 21-17. The 17-year-old from Punjab, who won her maiden BWF World Tour title at the Taipei Open last month, will face Japan’s Tomoka Miyazaki in next round.
