India’s Kidambi Srikanth advanced to the men’s singles final of the US Open Badminton Championships at the Titan Gym in California today. Srikanth defeated Japan’s Yudai Okimoto 22-20, 15-21 and 21-19 in a hard-fought semifinal.
The former world number one had booked his place in the last four with a 21-9, 12-21, 21-8 victory over Liao Jhuo-Fu of Chinese Taipei in the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, India’s Rounak Chouhan will take on Su Li Yang of Chinese Taipei in the other men’s singles semifinal later today, keeping alive the possibility of an all-India final.
In the women’s singles, India’s Devika Sihag bowed out of the tournament after losing to Denmark’s Line Christophersen in the semifinals. Christophersen won 21-16, 11-21 and 21-11 to seal her place in the final.
