External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said India and Poland are working on a series of agreements in key areas, including cyber security, space, and clean coal, expressing confidence that these initiatives will add greater depth and substance to bilateral relations.
Addressing a joint press conference with Polish Deputy Prime Minister Radoslaw Sikorski today following their talks in Warsaw, Jaishankar said India and Poland share a long-standing and cordial relationship, which was elevated to a Strategic Partnership in 2024.
He said the growing closeness between the two countries is reflected in regular high-level political engagements and institutional mechanisms across various sectors.
Describing his discussions with Sikorski as “productive”, Jaishankar said the two sides also exchanged views on major global and regional developments, including the conflict in Ukraine, the situation in West Asia and developments in the Indo-Pacific. He said that efforts must be made to promote dialogue and diplomacy to bring an end to the ongoing conflict.
Jaishankar also announced that the second edition of the Jamsaheb Memorial Youth Exchange Programme will be held next week. He noted that Indology and Sanskrit programmes are also gaining traction in Polish universities.
On India-European Union relations, Jaishankar said ties have deepened significantly in recent years. He described the recently concluded India-EU Free Trade Agreement as the centrepiece of the relationship, saying it would create new economic opportunities for both sides.
Meanwhile, the Polish Foreign Ministry said the talks focused on implementing the Strategic Partnership and expanding cooperation in key sectors, including defence, space and shipbuilding. The two sides also discussed Europe’s security situation, multilateral and regional cooperation, monuments and commemorative issues, and greater collaboration between think tanks.
