Future urban development must focus on proactive planning, nature-based solutions: Principal Secretary to PM

The National Institute of Urban Affairs today celebrated its golden jubilee, marking 50 years of contribution to India’s urban development. Addressing the gathering in New Delhi, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, Dr. P. K. Mishra said that as cities face growing climate-related stresses, future urban development must focus on proactive planning, nature-based solutions, green infrastructure and sustainable systems.
 
Organised under the theme ‘Resilient Urban India @2047’ the celebration brought 1000 students together, both online or offline. Meanwhile, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Srinivas Katikithala, said that India’s journey towards Viksit Bharat 2047 requires cities to be planned not only for growth but also for resilience, sustainability and long-term adaptability.
 
On the occasion, the National Urban Learning Platform was launched as part of iGOT Mission Karmayogi to strengthen capacity building in the urban sector. The celebrations brought together policymakers, experts, and stakeholders, reaffirming NIUA’s role in shaping inclusive and future-ready cities in India.
