Union Minister of Civil Aviation K Ram Mohan Naidu has said that India’s aviation sector has witnessed a complete transformation under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Addressing a conference at VORTEX – a National initiative for MSME Integration into Global Aerospace Supply Chains in New Delhi – Mr Naidu said that the sector, which was once considered an exclusive sector, has now become inclusive, opted for by the people of all classes.
The Minister said that the government is moving with the vision of Atmanirbharta in the sector, from manufacturing components to made-in-India aircraft. The Minister informed that the Indian aerospace and defence market, which was valued at 30 billion dollars in 2025, is now projected to be doubled at 61 billion dollars in the year 2035. He also said that passenger air traffic in the country is expected to grow at 8.9 per cent year on year through 2035, which is the fastest for any major economy in the world.
Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Samir Kumar Sinha, said, India is the third-largest domestic aviation market in the world. He said the number of Airports has grown from 74 in 2014 to 166 at present. He also informed, there were only 350 aircraft in 2014 and the number has reached more than 850.
