Indian Standard Time dissemination facility inaugurated at Bengaluru under One Nation One Time

Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Pralhad Joshi inaugurated the White Rabbit technology-based Indian Standard Time dissemination facility at the Regional Reference Standards Laboratory in Bengaluru today. The project is implemented under the ambitious vision of One Nation One Time initiative that envisages establishment of a uniform, highly precise and secure time standard across India. Speaking to the media persons, the minister said that this new system based on Indian sources upholds the sovereignty of the nation’s digital infrastructure by eliminating the country’s reliance on foreign time sources like GPS. This will provide maximum protection against risks such as cyber attacks and data manipulation. This will also stabilise our high-frequency financial markets, stock exchanges, digital banking payments, telecommunications networks and national power grids. Pralhad Joshi said that this secure and trusted Indian Standard Time reference developed in Bengaluru will be rolled out in New Delhi shortly after consultations at the highest level. The National Physical Laboratory, ISRO, BSNL and SEBI joined hands with the Legal Metrology Division under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs to develop this indigenous system in Bengaluru that operates on Coordinated Universal Time protocols, maintaining international quality standards and ensuring India’s internal security.
