Indian Railways warns passengers against playing audio on speaker mode, with fines up to ₹1,000

Indian Railways has issued an advisory cautioning passengers against playing music, videos, or other audio on mobile phones in speaker mode on trains and railway premises. A passenger found causing a nuisance by doing so can be removed from railway premises and will be fined up to one thousand rupees. Railway authorities can also seize the passenger’s ticket or pass, depending on the circumstances. The ticket examiners and senior officials from the railway division have been authorised to impose the penalty. As per the advisory, if a passenger continues to violate the direction, such a person can face imprisonment for up to six months or a fine of up to five thousand rupees or both.

Railway has instructed its divisions to raise awareness through public announcements and station notices. It had observed that passengers playing music and audio on speakerphones at railway stations and inside trains were causing a nuisance and adversely affecting the comfort of others.
