Indian missions in UAE issue medical insurance advisory for expats and visitors

The Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General of India in Dubai and the Northern Emirates have advised Indian nationals travelling to or residing in the UAE to take adequate medical insurance. In a joint advisory issued on 27 October, the Indian mission and post said they had received several instances of Indian nationals facing unforeseen illnesses or medical emergencies. These incidents resulted in huge medical bills beyond the capacity of patients or their family members to bear, due to inadequate insurance cover.

All Indian nationals travelling to the UAE for visits or tourism have thus been advised to take adequate and appropriate medical insurance before commencing their journey. The insurance should also cover cashless facilities, including the cost of medical repatriation to India in the event of an unforeseen medical emergency.

Indians residing in the UAE on employment visas or as dependents have also been advised to verify that their medical insurance is adequate to cover all medical expenses in the UAE and medical repatriation to India, in the event of emergency.
