Indian missions across the world observed Mahatma Gandhi’s 157th birth anniversary today, highlighting the enduring relevance of his message of truth, peace and non-violence.
In China, Indian Ambassador Vikram Doraiswami offered floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi in Beijing along with members of the Indian community and local dignitaries. Chinese artistes presented musical tributes, while members of the Indian diaspora rendered Gandhi’s favourite bhajans.
In Japan, Ambassador Naguma Mallick and members of the Indian community paid floral tributes at Gandhi’s statue at Edogawa in Tokyo. The event highlighted his ideals of Antyodaya, cleanliness and service to society.
Similar commemorative events were held in Pakistan, Nepal, Australia, New Zealand, Bahrain and South Korea. The Indian missions highlighted Mahatma Gandhi’s teachings and their relevance in today’s world. Musical performances, devotional songs and cultural programmes formed part of the commemorations in several countries. Gandhi Jayanti was also observed by Indian missions in Mongolia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and Türkiye.
The commemorations also marked the International Day of Non-Violence, with cultural and musical programmes held at several locations.
