India reiterates firm stand against terrorism, calls for united global action

India has reiterated its firm stand that terrorism cannot be justified under any circumstances and called for united global action to eliminate the menace. Addressing the UN General Assembly during the adoption of the Ninth Review of the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Harish Parvathaneni, said “A terrorist is a terrorist,” and emphasised that the counter-terrorism efforts should not be weakened by false equivalences or politicised narratives.

He said India has suffered cross-border terrorism for decades and therefore believes that terrorism in all its forms must be condemned unequivocally. He stressed that there should be no double standards in counter-terrorism and urged member states to hold perpetrators, organisers, financiers and sponsors of terrorism accountable. Ambassador Parvathaneni said countering terror financing and preventing terrorists from exploiting emerging technologies should remain global priorities.

He also renewed India’s call for the early adoption of the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism, saying a universal legal framework is essential for effective global cooperation.
