India reaffirms leadership in global pharmaceutical quality standards at World Pharmacopoeias meeting

India has reaffirmed its growing leadership in global pharmaceutical quality standards at the 16th International Meeting of World Pharmacopoeias held in Brasília, Brazil. A delegation from the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, led by Secretary-cum-Scientific Director Dr V. Kalaiselvan, participated in the three-day meeting from 15th to 17th of this month. 
 
Addressing the meeting, Dr. Kalaiselvan highlighted recent advancements in the Indian Pharmacopoeia, including modernisation initiatives and India’s contributions towards the global harmonisation of medicine quality standards. During the meeting, discussions reaffirmed that Indian Pharmacopoeia standards are comparable with leading international pharmacopoeias.
 
India was also recognised for its leadership in developing quality standards for anti-tuberculosis and anti-cancer medicines, blood and blood products, medicines used for anaemia management, and other complex pharmaceutical products.
 
The Indian delegation actively contributed to discussions on modern microbiological methods, pharmacopoeial convergence and environmental sustainability. The participation further strengthened collaboration with international pharmacopoeias and reaffirmed India’s growing role in shaping global pharmaceutical quality standards.
