India made a strong start at the World Para Shooting Championship, bagging four medals including one gold, two silver and one bronze on the opening day of the event at Changwon in South Korea today. The Indian women’s team of Mona Agarwal, Avani Lekhara and Mili Shah clinched gold in the R-2 10-metre Air Rifle Standing SH-1 team event. Mona Agarwal also won silver in the individual event, while Avani Lekhara got bronze. Serbia’s Kristina Trifunovic won the individual gold. Mona scored 250 points, while Avani finished with a score of 229.4. With her performance, Mona Agarwal has become the first Indian shooter to secure a place at the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympic Games.
In the men’s competition, the Indian trio of Rakesh Nidagundi, Ananda Krishna and Swaroop Unhalkar won silver in the R-1 10-metre Air Rifle Standing SH-1 team event, finishing second with a score of 1,856.3 points.
