Myanmar President U Min Aung Hlaing will be on an official visit to India from tomorrow till the 3rd of June. Briefing media in New Delhi this afternoon, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that during their bilateral talks, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the visiting dignitary will discuss how to strengthen bilateral ties further. He said, India looks forward to welcoming the President of Myanmar. He further stated that all issues that form part of the gamut of relations between Myanmar and India will come up for discussions.
On recent meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China Border Affairs, Mr Jaiswal said, the discussions were constructive and forward looking. He said, the two sides discussed issues relating to delimitation, border management, mechanism building and border cooperation. He added that the Indian side stressed on the early meeting of the next Expert Level Mechanism on Trans Border Rivers as well.
Replying to a query, the spokesperson said, India has sent the first tranche of medical supplies to CDC, Africa which was handed over by Indian High Commissioner in Uganda to CDCA office there. He said, New Delhi looks forward to helping in whatever manner possible in dealing with the public health emergency that has happened on the continent.
Replying to a query on illegal migrants of Bangladesh, Mr Jaiswal said, all illegal nationals who are staying in India will be dealt with as per law. He said, India has referred more than 2,680 cases to the Bangladeshi side to verify the nationality of the people. He added that once the nationality verification is done, India will be able to deport these nationals of Bangladesh. He also said that in many cases, this verification is pending for more than five years. He said, it is India’s expectation that it will receive an early response from Bangladesh on this particular issue.
The spokesperson informed that eleven Indian flagged vessels are still in the Persan Gulf region and fourteen ships were able to cross the Strait of Hormuz and reach India.
On trade talks between India and US, the spokesperson said, Indian trade team visited the US in April. He said, a team from the US is expected to arrive in India next week where negotiations will be taken forward. He said, there has been positive and constructive engagements so far.
Replying to a question, Mr Jaiswal emphasised that energy security is very important and India is trying to diversify sources from across the world. He said, New Delhi welcomes support from various markets in the world in this regard.
On unrest in Bolivia, Mr Jaiswal said, India is closely following the developments there.
