President Droupadi Murmu today paid homage at the Monument of Ștefan cel Mare și Sfânt in Chișinău by laying a wreath. The President was accompanied by senior dignitaries from India and Moldova. The wreath-laying ceremony was held as a mark of respect to Moldova’s national hero, symbolising the shared values of courage, sovereignty and friendship between the two countries.
President Droupadi Murmu today called for deeper economic engagement between India and Moldova, saying there is immense potential for collaboration in several high-growth sectors. Addressing the India-Moldova Business Forum in Chișinău, President Murmu said her visit, the first-ever State Visit by an Indian President to Moldova, reflects India’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties across political, economic, cultural and people-to-people spheres.
The President said India and Moldova share warm and friendly relations based on mutual respect, democratic values and a common commitment to peace and development. Referring to India’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, she said India seeks partnerships based on trust and shared prosperity, while Moldova’s strategic location, skilled workforce and growing integration with European markets make it an attractive destination for Indian businesses.
Highlighting opportunities for cooperation, President Murmu identified sectors such as digital technologies, artificial intelligence, cyber security, fintech, digital public infrastructure, renewable energy, infrastructure, advanced manufacturing, logistics, agriculture, food processing, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and healthcare.
She also welcomed the growing partnership in the energy sector, noting that Indian companies are implementing a high-voltage transmission line connecting Chișinău with Romania, which will enhance Moldova’s energy resilience and regional connectivity. She said Indian companies are keen to participate in Moldova’s renewable energy projects, including solar power, battery storage, smart grids and green hydrogen.
Inviting Moldovan companies to explore trade and investment opportunities in India, the President also encouraged Indian businesses to invest in Moldova. Expressing confidence that the Business Forum would pave the way for new partnerships and innovative collaborations, she said the two countries can together write a new chapter in their economic relationship.
