India has handed over 24 newly constructed houses at the Pathinigama Model Village in Sri Lanka’s Kurunegala District, further strengthening its development partnership with the island nation. The houses were inaugurated and handed over by Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha along with Sri Lanka’s Minister of Housing, Construction and Water Supply, Dr. Sushil Ranasinghe.
Built with Indian grant assistance, the project is part of the Model Village Programme being implemented across all 25 districts of Sri Lanka to improve living standards and support inclusive socio-economic development at the grassroots level.
In a social media post, Mr Jha said the initiative reflects India’s continued commitment to community development in Sri Lanka. The housing project is among several people-centric development initiatives being supported by India in Sri Lanka in sectors such as housing, education, healthcare and infrastructure.
