Communication Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has said that India does not allow a monopoly in any sector and criticised the Congress over its stance on Starlink’s licence to operate in India.
He said three companies namely Starlink, Jio Satellite Communications and Eutelsat OneWeb, have secured satcom licences. Speaking at the 10th Edition of India Mobile Congress 2026 in New Delhi today, Mr Scindia said the government would assign spectrum to the companies on a revenue-sharing basis once the framework was decided.
He stressed that satcom operators would be permitted to begin services only after individually fulfilling the stipulated security norms and other regulatory requirements. The Minister said that the government’s job is to provide a bouquet of services to the customers and it is upto them to choose in a free market what they prefer.
Communication Ministry said that India’s regulatory framework for satellite communication services is fair and non-discriminatory. Under the terms and conditions of license, every such licensee is required to demonstrate compliance with security conditions. This is aimed at ensuring that services provided meet various security requirements to ensure the safety of all users and their data.
