India has crossed the significant milestone of 80 lakh Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccinations, marking a major step towards strengthening preventive healthcare and protecting against HPV infection and HPV-associated cancers. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said that the HPV Vaccination initiative has been taken under the National HPV Vaccination Campaign since its launch in February 2026. It added that Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Mizoram have achieved 100 percent coverage of their identified targets, while Bihar, Andhra Pradesh and Assam have crossed 90 per cent. Uttar Pradesh has recorded the highest number, with more than 22 lakh adolescent girls vaccinated.
The Ministry highlighted that all vaccination sessions are conducted under medical supervision, with 24-hour arrangements for managing rare adverse events following immunisation. The campaign is being monitored through the U-WIN digital platform, with focus now on reaching remaining eligible beneficiaries. The Ministry noted that the campaign provides free and voluntary single-dose HPV vaccination to 14-year-old girls with parental consent. It further said that every vaccination brings India closer to a healthier and cancer-free future for its daughters.
