India have advanced to the quarterfinals of the Badminton Asia Junior Mixed Team Championship in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, with a 3-2 victory over the Philippines. In the decisive match, the mixed doubles pair of Bhargav Ram Arigela and Vennala K staged a comeback after losing the first game, winning 17-21, 21-19, 21-17 against Pham Van Truong and Bui Bich Phuong to give India the lead.
Pranay Shettigar then extended India’s advantage by overcoming Tran Quoc Khanh with scores of 10-21, 21-18, 21-17. Tanvi Sharma, a finalist in the senior nationals, sealed the victory for India with a 21-13, 21-18 win over Tran Thi Anh.
India will now face hosts Indonesia today to determine the group winner. Earlier, India began their campaign with a dominant 5-0 win against Vietnam in their Group C opener on Friday.
Indonesia has also secured a spot in the quarterfinals after defeating the Philippines and Vietnam in group matches.
