The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has raised India’s GDP growth forecast to 7 per cent for 2026-27, up from 6.4 per cent in July. In its flagship World Economic Outlook report, the IMF said the revision in the estimate comes on the back of stronger-than-expected momentum, supported by resilient domestic demand and robust services activity. It said India stands out with upward revisions, reflecting sustained momentum and growing evidence of stronger growth potential supported by favourable demographic dynamics, an expanding domestic market, and continued structural reforms. The revision came after the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) latest monetary policy meeting, which raised its GDP growth estimate for the current financial year to 7.1 per cent. The IMF has also lifted its FY28 growth projection for India by 0.3 percentage points to 7%, pointing to the durability of the country’s expansion.
