IMD issues red alert as heavy rain lashes Delhi and Haryana

Delhiites woke up to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms this morning. The rain caused waterlogging in various places, due to which traffic movement was severely affected. The IMD had issued a red colour warning for moderate to heavy rain in the national capital, including Haryana. According to the IMD, Safdarjung recorded 73 millimetres of rainfall, Lodhi Road received 80 mm, Palam 63 mm and Ayanagar 57 millimetres during the last 24 hours.
 
Delhi government has said that teams of the Delhi Jal Board, Public Works Department and the Municipal Corporation are on the ground and dealing with waterlogging situation. It added that the Delhi Government is working on a war footing to tackle waterlogging, and all necessary measures are being taken by the administration. The Delhi Chief Minister’s Office said that all concerned agencies are on alert following the directions of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
