The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert in five districts of Keralam- Thiruvananthapuram, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur, forecasting very heavy rainfall today. A yellow alert has been issued for the remaining nine districts. The yellow alert will remain in force in various districts until October 21. The IMD has also forecast isolated thunderstorms accompanied by rain and strong winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph. In view of the rough weather conditions, fishing has been banned along the Keralam, Karnataka and Lakshadweep coasts until tomorrow.
