India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange colour warning for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms over Central and Eastern parts of the country.
The weather department also forecast moderate to heavy rainfall over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh. The IMD said that southwest monsoon is set to further advance over the entire country including the remaining parts of North Arabian Sea, Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab during the next 2-3 days.
Parts of Sub Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Maharashtra, Coastal Karnataka, East Rajasthan, Gujarat, Konkan and Goa and South Interior Karnataka are witnessing very heavy rainfall today. IMD said that thunderstorms, gusty winds and lightning are likely to occur over Andhra Pradesh, Lakshadweep, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Bihar, Odisha, West Bengal and Sikkim.
Meanwhile, the national capital has been receiving light rainfall since this morning, bringing much-needed respite from the heat.
