A low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a depression today, triggering intense rainfall over Odisha. North Odisha is witnessing incessant heavy rain, with Balasore, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar among the worst affected districts. Several other districts have also received heavy rainfall, while a lightning strike has claimed one life in Koraput.

 

The low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a depression today, according to the India Meteorological Department. Its influence has brought incessant heavy rain to north Odisha, particularly Balasore, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar. Balasore received around 137 millimetres of rainfall in the last 24 hours.

 

Heavy rain was also recorded in Bhadrak, Angul, Jajpur and Dhenkanal districts. The IMD has forecast widespread rainfall over Odisha, with heavy to very heavy rain at several places. Meanwhile, one person died after being struck by lightning at Darengaba village under Nandapur block in Koraput district. The IMD has advised people to remain alert amid the continuing adverse weather conditions.
