Fresh low pressure over the northwest Bay of Bengal has intensified the flood threat in northern Odisha, with the IMD forecasting heavy to very heavy rain through Tuesday. Baitarani, Brahmani, Salandi, Jalaka and Budhabalanga rivers continue to inundate several areas, keeping six districts – Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Kendrapara on high alert. 

 

Around two lakh seventy thousand people in over five hundred villages have been affected. More than ninety-five thousand people have been evacuated to relief camps, where cooked food, drinking water and medical assistance are being provided. Authorities remain on high alert as more rain is forecast. In Angul district, torrential rain has inundated Pallahara market, while floodwater is flowing over the Pallahara-Talcher main road, disrupting movement and adding to the difficulties of residents.
