The Indian Institute of Mass Communication, IIMC, has launched its Artificial Intelligence in Media and Entertainment, AIME Academy in New Delhi today. Speaking on the occasion, Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Chanchal Kumar said that the Academy will function on five key pillars which include Capacity Building, Research, Innovation and Incubation, Responsible AI and Policy Development, and Industry-Academia Collaboration.
The Secretary underlined that AI adaptation cannot only happen through policy statements, but it has to happen through capacity building, hands-on exposure, and confidence building. He emphasised that AI capability must not remain limited to metropolitan newsrooms, but it must become part of the wider Indian Ecosystem. Mr. Kumar said that IIMC has a strong legacy of media education and it has trained generations of media professionals and communication officers. He stressed that the launch of the AIME Academy could help IIMC to move from traditional media training to future media capability.
The Vice-Chancellor of IIMC, Dr. Pragya Paliwal Gaur, highlighted that the AIME Academy will serve as a first-of-its-kind national hub dedicated to AI literacy, applied skills, and innovation in the Media and Entertainment sector. She noted that the national hub will curate specialized training programmes and AI toolkits for premier broadcasting and media organisations, including Doordarshan, Akashvani, and the Press Information Bureau. It also proposes to launch a dedicated Journal on AI in Media and Entertainment to document the sector’s digital transformation.
To mark the occasion, IIMC Delhi and the Google News Initiative also organised a Graduation Day at the campus to celebrate the successful completion of the AI Skills Program. Launched in 2025, this multi-track training and mentoring initiative has equipped participants from over 100 newsrooms and media colleges with foundational AI literacy and real-world AI skills and tools.
