IGNCA organises exhibition on traditional utensils of Northeast India in New Delhi

The Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) is organising an exhibition in New Delhi, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Northeast India through traditional household utensils. The exhibition will remain open till 2nd July.

The IGNCA has inaugurated a rare and distinctive exhibition titled Living Heritage in Metal, Bamboo and Clay: Traditional Utensils of Northeast India in New Delhi. The exhibition presents a glimpse into the folk life, traditional craftsmanship and cultural traditions of Northeast India.

The exhibition features a rich collection of traditional utensils crafted from metal, bamboo and clay materials that have long been an integral part of everyday life in the region. The displays showcase the ingenuity of local artisans and the deep connection between communities and their natural environment.

The exhibition highlights how craftsmanship and hand-making traditions continue to survive in many parts of the Northeast despite rapid industrialisation and changing lifestyles.

Organised by the National Mission on Cultural Mapping under the Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation Limited, the exhibition aims to create awareness about India’s diverse cultural heritage and the need to preserve traditional knowledge systems for future generations.
