The Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) Unit of Delhi Police has prevented 1.53 crore rupees cyber fraud across five states. The unit tracked suspicious money trails and identified victims of cyber fraud through timely intervention in five cases across Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat. Most of the cases relate to elderly citizens targeted through ‘Digital Arrest’ scams.
Delhi Police has urged the citizens to remember that there is no such thing as Digital Arrest in law. It noted that no police, CBI, NIA, TRAI, RBI or court official will ever arrest anyone over a video call or ask for money to ‘verify’ or ‘secure’ funds. Delhi Police has urged people to not panic on receiving such calls and disconnect the call and not share OTPs, Aadhaar details or bank information. It has also asked the citizens to immediately call the National Cyber Crime Helpline 1930 or report at cybercrime.gov.in.
