The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has said that the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) in Ukraine has lost its off-site power supply for the 21st time since the start of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The incident has raised concerns over nuclear safety.
The IAEA said the outage was triggered by military activity, forcing the plant’s emergency diesel generators to automatically power reactor cooling systems and other critical safety functions.
IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi warned that the incident highlights the fragility of nuclear safety at the plant and called for maximum military restraint to prevent a nuclear accident.
The Zaporizhzhia plant, one of Europe’s largest nuclear facilities, has faced repeated power disruptions since the conflict escalated.
