The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has announced that it has negotiated a temporary local ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia, to enable repairs to a critical power supply line serving Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
In a post on social media, the IAEA said that technicians from both sides are expected to begin repairing war-related damage to the 750-kilovolt Dniprovska power line in the coming days, following extensive demining operations in the area.
The line has been out of service for more than two months, leaving Europe’s largest nuclear power plant dependent on a single 330-kilovolt backup line to provide the electricity required to cool its six shut-down reactors.
