Houthi missile attack on military training centre in Yemen kills over 53 recruits, injures more than 200

A Houthi missile attack on a Military training centre in Yemen’s Shabwa governorate has killed more than 53 recruits and injured over 200 others, according to preliminary figures released by the Shabwa Governorate Media Office. In a statement issued today, the local authority said the recruits were undergoing training and security qualification at the Martyr Ahmed Al-Sulaimani Training Centre when it came under bombardment by several ballistic missiles.

The authority condemned the attack, holding the Houthi militias responsible. It and called on Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, government and coalition supporting the internationally recognised government to provide air defence systems and strengthen the governorate’s security capabilities. It also said medical resources had been mobilised to treat the injured, with critical cases to be transferred to specialised centres if necessary.

The spokesperson for the Yemeni government’s armed forces, Majed Al Nuzaili informed on X that the Houthis fired three ballistic missiles at the centre.

The Houthis have recently targeted various sites in government-held areas of Yemen, including the airport and presidential palace in Aden, the interim capital of the internationally recognised Yemen government.
