Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma said Union Home Minister Amit Shah had assured that the proposed Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026 would not have retrospective effect. Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Lalduhoma said he had raised concerns over the proposed legislation with the Union Home Minister. He said Mr Shah informed him that the Bill would not apply retrospectively to past actions or transactions.

On other issues raised, the Mizoram Chief Minister said the Union Home Minister assured him they would be examined separately and that the Bill is scheduled to be taken up for discussion in Parliament on August 12. On July 25, a delegation led by the Chief Minister, along with leaders of the Mizoram Kohhran Hruaitute Committee (MKHC) and the Council of Churches in Mizoram (CCM), resolved to submit a memorandum to the Union Home Minister opposing the proposed FCRA Amendment Bill, 2026. They maintained that the Bill, in its present form, was unacceptable and called for wider consultation before any amendments to the law are enacted.
