HM Amit Shah launches mission to plant 70 lakh saplings in Delhi

Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a mission to plant 70 lakh saplings in Delhi under the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign to increase the green cover in the national capital.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Shah said the campaign is a significant initiative aimed at improving Delhi’s environment. He noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign to promote environmental conservation.

The Home Minister said the government is continuously working to clean the Yamuna River. He added that 129 sewage treatment plants (STPs) have become operational over the past year, ensuring the flow of treated water into the river.

Mr Shah also said the Delhi Government has introduced a new Electric Vehicle Policy and is committed to realising the vision of a green Delhi. He appealed to all citizens to plant a sapling in the name of their mother.

Highlighting the importance of environmental conservation, Mr Shah said the revival of the Delhi Ridge is the central focus of the programme. He added that around 5,000 hectares of the Ridge have now been officially notified as forest land.
