Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla extends greetings on Hindi Journalism Day

Hindi Patrakarita Diwas is being observed today. The day is celebrated every year on 30 May in India to commemorate the beginning of journalism in Hindi. It marks the publication of ‘Udant Martand’, the first Hindi newspaper in India, which was launched on 30 May 1826 from Kolkata. The newspaper was founded and edited by Pandit Jugal Kishore Shukla, who is regarded as a pioneer of Hindi journalism.

On the occasion, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla today extended his greetings to journalists, writers and enlightened individuals dedicated to the Hindi language. In a social media post, Mr Birla said that Hindi journalism has served as a powerful medium for awakening social consciousness, strengthening democracy and reflecting the sentiments of the people.
