Three labourers died in a landslide that occurred this evening in a mining area near Kafota in the Shillai tehsil of Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh. Confirming the incident, Sirmaur Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Verma stated that the deceased included two individuals of Nepali origin and one local resident. Relief and rescue operations are currently underway at the site. Also in Sirmaur district, 52 students and 12 staff members from Matar School in the Nahan assembly constituency have been stranded for several hours due to heavy rainfall. The Deputy Commissioner said the administration is monitoring the situation, and rescue operations are ongoing; some students have already been safely evacuated.
In Solan district, train movement on the Shimla-Kalka railway line has been suspended due to a landslide at Koti, near Jabli. Torrential rains in the district have caused water logging near the Taksal crossing on the Old Kasauli Road, disrupting vehicular traffic. Amidst this, the Meteorological Department has issued an ‘Orange Alert’ for heavy to very heavy rainfall in three districts-Chamba, Kangra, and Kullu-while a ‘Yellow Alert’ for heavy rainfall has been issued for the Shimla, Mandi, and Sirmaur districts.
