Torrential rains prompt evacuations in east China’s Fujian

Torrential rains have forced the evacuation of 36,000 people in the eastern province of Fujian, China. The provincial flood control office said that days of heavy rains have wreaked havoc in many parts of Fujian, which has declared an emergency response to rainstorms. Heavy rainfall has caused flooding in 22 rivers in south China’s Guangxi Zhuang Region. The regional hydrology center has reported that a total of 30 hydrologic stations in Guangxi reported water levels above the warning levels.


China’s state broadcaster reported, mudslides in the Fujian province, disrupting traffic and forcing rescuers to evacuate residents after heavy rainfall in the region. The government issued an alert for high temperatures while the south faced severe flood warnings in different parts of the country. China has been experiencing extreme weather in recent months. Further north, drought is taking a severe toll on agriculture.
