In Maharashtra, heavy monsoon rains continued to affect several parts of the state today, triggering rescue operations and rain-related incidents. In Raigad district, 10 to 12 tourists were safely rescued by the police from Adoshi Waterfall near Khopoli after the water level rose suddenly due to heavy rainfall. No injuries were reported. Authorities have advised people to stay away from rivers, waterfalls and other water bodies during the monsoon.
Meanwhile, in Mumbai, a 63-year-old man was killed after a tree fell on a shop in Kurla during heavy rain this afternoon. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said 64 incidents of tree falls and eight cases of wall or partial house collapses have been reported across the city due to the ongoing downpour.
Heavy rain and strong gusty winds have also disrupted flight operations at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport today, forcing the suspension of runway operations for one hour. . According to flight-tracking website Flightradar24, 87 per cent of departing flights and 62 per cent of arriving flights were delayed, while a small number of inbound flights were cancelled due to the adverse weather.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert in the Konkan districts, including Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad and Ratnagiri, for heavy to very heavy rainfall at many places and extremely heavy rainfall at isolated locations over the next 24 hours. The IMD has also predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in the ghat areas of Satara, Pune and Kolhapur districts. In the Marathwada region, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, gusty winds of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour and heavy rainfall are likely at isolated places.
For North Madhya Maharashtra, especially the ghat regions, the weather office has forecast thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour and extremely heavy rainfall at isolated locations.
