In Uttar Pradesh, at least 56 people have been killed in thunderstorms and rain-related incidents since Friday, as heavy rainfall continues to affect several parts of the state.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed officials to conduct relief operations in rain- and flood-affected areas with utmost seriousness, ensuring that no affected family faces hardship during the crisis.

The highest number of deaths has been reported from Sitapur, followed by Lakhimpur Kheri, Bahraich, Balrampur, Ayodhya and Gorakhpur. Around 1,020 houses have also been damaged.

Water levels in the Ghagra and Rapti rivers are rising at several monitoring stations, posing a flood threat to low-lying areas.

In view of the situation, officials have been directed to ensure immediate relief and assistance to affected people. Mandakini and Gandak rivers are also wreaking havoc in Chitrakoot and Kushinagar districts, respectively.

Eight districts are facing flood-like conditions following an intense three-day spell of rain. The Meteorological Department has forecast thunderstorms and rain at many places in the eastern and western districts of the state today.

In view of the inclement weather, a holiday has been declared for schools and colleges in several districts, including Amroha, Shravasti, Pilibhit and Bijnor.
