Monsoon has intensified across Jharkhand, bringing a significant change in weather conditions over the past twenty-four hours. Heavy rainfall and lightning have caused widespread damage in several parts of the state. The Meteorological Department has issued alerts, advising people to remain cautious.

 

At least twenty people have lost their lives due to lightning strikes in Jharkhand during the past twenty-four hours. Giridih district reported the highest number of casualties, with eleven deaths. The India Meteorological Department has issued an Orange Alert for the next three days in vulnerable areas of north-western and central Jharkhand, warning of very heavy rainfall.

 

A Yellow Alert has also been issued for the entire state, including Ranchi, Khunti, Ramgarh, Bokaro, Dhanbad and Koderma, with a warning of strong winds. According to weather scientists, the prevailing weather conditions are due to a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, which is likely to generate winds with speeds of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour.

 

The State Disaster Management Department has appealed to people to avoid open spaces, agricultural fields and sheltering under trees during inclement weather. In the state capital Ranchi and adjoining areas, the sky has remained overcast since morning, with intermittent spells of rain continuing.
