Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav announced that Gujarat has achieved a major environmental milestone by completing mangrove plantation across 27,000 hectares in Kutch under the ‘MISHTI’ scheme, accomplishing a significant portion of its 29,000-hectare target.
The Minister, along with his team, visited the scientific nursery in Jakhau, which was established to raise mangrove and seaweed species adapted to local tidal conditions, with active participation from local coastal communities and the Border Security Force (BSF). Speaking to reporters today, Mr Yadav highlighted key initiatives to preserve coastal biodiversity in Gujarat and protect endangered wildlife.
As part of wildlife protection and the Cheetah Project, 33 patrolling and rescue vehicles were flagged off for the forest department. Additionally, the Union Minister also inaugurated the ‘Saira Van Kavach’ under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, featuring over 10,000 plants of 49 species across one hectare, along with apiculture setups.
