Gujarat: BJP candidates file nominations for four Rajya Sabha seats

In Gujarat, all four BJP candidates for the biennial Rajya Sabha elections filed their nomination papers at the Gujarat Legislative Assembly today. Elections for four vacant seats out of the eleven Rajya Sabha seats in Gujarat are scheduled to be held on June 18th, and today was the last day for filing nominations.

From the BJP, nominations were filed by Rajubhai Shukla, Mansinh Parmar, Mukeshbhai Rathwa, and Jitendrabhai Kanzariya in the presence of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, State BJP President Jagdish Vishwakarma, and other senior leaders.

As the Congress party did not file any nominations, the BJP is eyeing a historic sweep. State BJP President Jagdish Vishwakarma stated that for the first time in history, the BJP is set to script a new record by holding all eleven Rajya Sabha seats from the state.

Our correspondent reports that the four Rajya Sabha seats from Gujarat are falling vacant as the six-year terms of sitting MPs Rambhai Mokariya, Narhari Amin, and Ramilaben Bara of the BJP, and Shaktisinh Gohil of the Congress are ending on June 21st.
