Govt is promoting ease of living while ensuring environmental protection: Union Minister Bhupender Yadav

Union Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupender Yadav today underlined that India’s transition to electric mobility is not merely about replacing one technology with another, it is about building a sustainable industrial ecosystem.

He said this while addressing the Inaugural Session of the National Conference on ‘Electric Mobility: Building India an Electric Mobility Hub for Viksit Bharat.’ He noted that the government is promoting ease of living while ensuring environmental protection through policies that balance development with sustainability.

Mr Yadav further informed that the Government has undertaken a series of reforms to simplify environmental clearances, digitise approval systems through PARIVESH portal, rationalise compliance requirements and promote ease of doing business without compromising environmental safeguards.

These reforms are enabling faster investments while ensuring responsible development. Mr Yadav said the government’s approach reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ensuring that ecology and economy grow together. He highlighted that despite rapid industrial development, the country’s forest cover has increased from 701,673 square kilometres in 2014 to 715,000 square kilometres.

The Minister said the government is advancing Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) to encourage industries to take responsibility for waste management, including construction debris and e-waste, with the aim of promoting a circular economy based on the principles of reuse, recycle and reduce. He added that the government’s industrial policies focus on green employment, longer life spans, better infrastructure and transparency.

The Conference is bringing together senior policymakers, industry leaders, automotive manufacturers, technology providers and other stakeholders to deliberate on the roadmap for accelerating India’s electric mobility transition and strengthening the country’s position as a global EV manufacturing hub.
